A few of my Favorites...

People often ask me what my favorite items in the store are. The truth is, I love them all. (I picked them didn’t I?) But, if I absolutely had to choose (gun to my head and all) – and if I had a maximum (10 in this case), these would be it for the season. Although it does pain me to leave the rest out…

Sometimes Talent is in the Blood

Barrymore, Arquette, Coppola, Los Angeles is just full of families who have more creative talent than they know what to do with. Passing it down from generation to generation along with the ability to mix this amazing talent with hard work and technical skill. The Azria family is just one of LA’s gifted families – their abilities have been mostly restricted to the fashion scene and luckily for us there seems to be no end in sight as far as where their stylish flair will take us.
This season Lily Savitch a Boutique is proud to introduce yet another line brought into this world by the brilliance of the Azria family. This time in the form of Sydney Los Angeles, a cashmere/silk blend knitwear line of dresses, tees and sweaters. Sydney’s background is the perfect mix of West Coast ease with European elegance and the result is a to die for collection of must have fashion basics

Nobody does it better (than the French)

Look up “je ne sais quoi” in the Dictionary of Fashion and you might find the name Cacharel. A design house hailing from Paris circa 1962 that has built a reputation solely on “that certain something” that only French woman exude (walking through the grimy metro tunnels wrapped in scarves the way only a Parisian can wrap/tie/knot a scarf).
Call it what you will; “chic” or ‘au courant” – the French have understood these terms for centuries and have championed its advocates through thick and thin.
But few true French design houses have been as loyal to this vision of fashion as Cacharel. In this global economy and mix and swapping of creative ideals as well as the sale of most small design houses to the likes of LVMH and Gucci Group, amongst others, the true meaning of French style has become muddled. This is a fate that Cacharel has thankfully avoided. Privately owned and operated and beloved by proponents of “chic” worldwide, Cacharel has been able to retain that certain something ingredient missing from a lot of fashion these days.
And luckily you don’t have to be French to love their elegant creations. Over the years they have built up a worldwide fan base longing for their “just the thing!” clothing. In my mind it is no coincidence that Paris is still the center of the universe when it comes to style – and Cacharel at the center of style when you are in Paris – or anywhere else for that matter.

Kiwi Invasion (part deux)

These days the “capital of fashion” moves almost daily. From Tokyo to London to New York – and even, more often than not, Down-under! Several weeks ago I told you about one talented Kiwi who has taken the international fashion world and placed it firmly under her thumb. This week yet another New Zealander, Deborah Sweeney joins the ranks of down-under designers hardly down on their luck.
With graduate degrees from the house of Jill Stuart as well as stores like Top Shop and H&M – Deborah Sweeney is more than qualified to set up her own line of youth oriented, fashion forward thinking clothing with a fun and joyful sensibility.
Her designs seem to scream out, “smile goddamn you!” at anyone who comes into direct contact with them. Isn’t that what fashion really is all about? Who wants to wear mourning clothes all season? Not me! Fashion should be about happiness and feeling like Snow White after just being kissed awake by her prince – and I suppose if there is anyone out there who may know what THAT feels like it’s Deborah Sweeney.
