Kiwi Invasion (part deux)

These days the “capital of fashion” moves almost daily. From Tokyo to London to New York – and even, more often than not, Down-under! Several weeks ago I told you about one talented Kiwi who has taken the international fashion world and placed it firmly under her thumb. This week yet another New Zealander, Deborah Sweeney joins the ranks of down-under designers hardly down on their luck.
With graduate degrees from the house of Jill Stuart as well as stores like Top Shop and H&M – Deborah Sweeney is more than qualified to set up her own line of youth oriented, fashion forward thinking clothing with a fun and joyful sensibility.
Her designs seem to scream out, “smile goddamn you!” at anyone who comes into direct contact with them. Isn’t that what fashion really is all about? Who wants to wear mourning clothes all season? Not me! Fashion should be about happiness and feeling like Snow White after just being kissed awake by her prince – and I suppose if there is anyone out there who may know what THAT feels like it’s Deborah Sweeney.
